Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas Confirmed for ‘Expendables 3’

I hope Lionsgate sends out an official press release once The Expendables 3 officially gets underway because at this point I’m not sure who exactly is in and who’s out of the upcoming sequel to be directed by Patrick Hughes.

In recent days we learned Bruce Willis was dropped from the film because instead of the $4 million he wanted for four days of work he was only offered $3 million and that simply wasn’t acceptable. Sylvester Stallone took to Twitter to call Willis greedy and at the same time announced Harrison Ford would be taking his place. It was also recently announced UFC Fighter Ronda Rousey was joining the film while at the same time it looks like she’ll be joining the cast of James Wan‘s Fast & Furious 7.

Now to today’s news (via EW), Mel Gibson was previously rumored to be joining the cast, but EW now confirms he will officially play the film’s villain, just as he’s playing the villain in Robert Rodriguez‘s upcoming film, Machete Kills. It would seem Gibson’s image in real life is leaking into his work.

Also joining the cast is Stallone’s Assassins co-star Antonio Banderas.

Other names currently rumored for the film but, to my knowledge, not officially confirmed include Milla Jovovich, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage and Steven Seagal.

The Expendables 3 hits theaters just over a year from now on August 15, 2014.
