Paul Greengrass‘ Captain Phillips will open the 2013 New York Film Festival and now it has been announced Ben Stiller‘s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will serve as the centerpiece gala selection on October 5, long before its Christmas Day release.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye starrer, which itself was based on the 1939 short story by James Thurber. The story centers on Walter Mitty (Stiller), a man who escapes his unexciting daily life by delving into elaborate daydreams in which he is suddenly a heroic character.
Fox is expected to mount an Oscar campaign for the film, which only saw the first trailer arrive yesterday to a warm reception from most everyone that saw it. The fact they are ready to give it this kind of an advanced peek more than two months before it hits theaters is a good sign, here’s to hoping everything works out.
I’ve included the new trailer below for anyone that missed it yesterday.
