Sony has revealed the first two official pictures from David O. Russell‘s American Hustle featuring Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams and it’s pretty damned hard not to take special note of their haircuts.
Based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), American Hustle follows their story as they are forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Jeremy Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.
Now while that description says “based on a true story” I’m already happy to read earlier word from producer Charles Roven speaking with The Playlist and saying, “The film has really become a fictitious movie that takes place during the time of Abscam, and has some Abscam in it. But it’s by no mean the true story of Abscam, the Zero Dark Thirty version of that story.”
The pictures arrive from USA Today where Russell draws parallels to today’s economy saying, “That era was very much like our era now… The economy was not in a good place and people had to struggle to figure out how to reinvent themselves.”
Russell is editing the film now for a limited December 13 release. The film will expand on Christmas Day.
