Rumors related to Star Wars: Episode VII are going to increase as time goes by and for now I’ve stayed away from most of them, but this latest one from Latino Review is a little interesting as they say Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron have met with Disney and director J.J. Abrams about the film. While DiCaprio has apparently already been ruled out, it seems the other two may still be in the mix.
No word on what character Efron met for, but word is Gosling, a one-time member of the “Mickey Mouse Club“, supposedly was discussing tackling the rule as Luke Skywalker’s son.
The news essentially ends there, but speculation over what it would be like if either Gosling or Efron or both are added to the cast could continue. Gosling’s involvement in massive blockbusters has been limited to say the least as he hasn’t been involved in a franchise project to date unless I’m missing something, though I still don’t see this as something for him. For some reason the two ideals just don’t click in my mind.
Efron was once Disney’s “High School Musical” poster child and in some ways has already been attached to the Star Wars franchise voicing Anakin Skywalker on Robot Chicken’s Star Wars Episode III. Yet, I don’t think Efron has crossed over far enough into the male demographic to make him a safe enough pick, at least not for a major role in the film.
Of course, we have no idea which direction Michael Arndt‘s screenplay takes the world of Star Wars. Perhaps Efron will be perfect, but we only have so much to go by.
With all that said, here’s a video of Gosling and Justin Timberlake on the “Mickey Mouse Club” way back when.
