First Official ‘Oldboy’ Poster for Spike Lee’s 2013 Remake

FilmDistrict has officially released the first poster for Spike Lee‘s remake of Oldboy along with news the red band trailer will be released this Wednesday, July 10. The studio was explicit in noting the below poster is “a shot from the film (instead of a composed comp) and is a nod to the trailer.”

Oldboy follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.

Neil Kellerhouse designed the poster and the title treatment is Brolin’s real handwriting, as inspired by the handwritten letters his character writes to his daughter in the film. (I blacked out some words that spoil part of the plot. Highlight the text to reveal what’s written.)

Check out the poster below and be here on Wednesday at 1 PM PST/ 4 PM ET for the red band trailer debut. Oldboy hits theaters on October 25.
