McConaughey’s ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and Radcliffe’s ‘Kill You Darlings’ Dated

Sony Pictures Classics has announced an October 18 release for John KrokidasKill Your Darlings, which played Sundance this year and was quickly picked up. The film features Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, Jack Huston as Jack Kerouac and Ben Foster as William Burroughs as three beat generation poets brought together following the 1944 murder of David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall). Dane DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, whom Ginsberg meets and is drawn to while attending Columbia University.

Additional members of the cast include Michael C. Hall, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kyra Sedgwick and David Cross.

In other release date news, Focus has beefed up a rather empty Oscar slate by setting a December 6 release date for Jean-Marc Vallée‘s Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey, Gael Garcia Bernal, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto and Steve Zahn.

The pic finds McConaughey playing real-life Texas electrician Ron Woodroof, an ordinary man who found himself in a life-or-death battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies. In 1986, Ron was blindsided by being diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. With the U.S. still internally divided over how to combat the virus and restricting medications, Ron grabbed hold of non-toxic alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. Seeking to avoid government sanctions against selling non-approved medicines and supplements, he established a “buyers club,” which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.

It doesn’t seem like The Place Beyond the Pines will have much Oscar impact, which means Buyers Club and maybe Closed Circuit will be the only chance Focus has for Oscar attention this year unless they swoop in and pick something up between now and the end of the year, perhaps something in Venice or Toronto.
