‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Director Shortlist isn’t What You Expected

Deadline has a list of three potential directors (well, four really) for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean 5, which will once again feature Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow as the Mouse House isn’t done with the high seas franchise yet.

After Gore Verbinski directed the first three Pirates films, Rob Marshall stepped in for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and now Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are looking for a new director for the fifth installment.

Of those reportedly on the shortlist you have Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman), Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg who directed the Oscar-nominated foreign language film Kon-Tiki and Snow White and the Hunstman helmer Rupert Sanders.

Deadline reports the Kon-Tiki duo seems to be at the top of the list, but offers haven’t yet been made and additional meetings will need to take place before anything moves forward.

Pirates 5 is currently slated for a July 10, 2015 release with production expected to take place late this year or early next year.
