Shailene Woodley had her coming out party in The Descendents and now she finds herself playing Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, already receiving good buzz for The Spectacular Now (which I’ll be seeing next week) and landing the lead role in the adaptation of author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best seller Divergent.
The story is described as a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
In addition to Woodley the cast includes Kate Winslet, Theo James, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen and Amy Newbold.
Summit has already announced a March 21, 2014, the same weekend The Hunger Games opened in 2012 before going on to gross $691+ million worldwide.
