Richard Linklater‘s Before Midnight is having its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival as I type this and anyone that pays a drop of attention to this website knows this is my most anticipated movie of the year. Here’s what I wrote when I named it #1:
Before it was made, I didn’t want them to make it, but now that they have I have got to see it. Before Midnight is the sequel to Before Sunset, which was the sequel to Before Sunrise and it reunites us with Celine (Julie Delpy) and Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and as much as I loved the way the second film ended and truly wish they had not made a third I am praying they have tapped into the same pot of gold that makes the first two films so great.
The film picks up ten years after the last one with Celine and Jesse in their early forties, together in Greece, and as this batch of new pictures shows, it’s going to be another film following the two as they walk and talk and make us only want to watch more.
I pray this film is as good as I want it to be, but I don’t want to read a single review to ensure I see it without any outside influence. Before Midnight does not yet have a distributor, but I expect that won’t last for much longer.
