I’m hesitant to report on this “news” because it doesn’t come from The Daily Mail‘s normal showbiz reporter with the news, Baz Bamigboye, but the source of the rumor isn’t The Sun, which gives it a little more weight. Word from the Mail‘s Sunday Reporter has to do with The Avengers 2 and word Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are being sought for the role of Ms. Marvel.
According to the Marvel Wiki, Ms. Marvel is actually Carol Danvers who became a major in the Air Force and was eventually recruited into the intelligence field and started working with CIA, during which time she met and worked with Colonel Nick Fury. Her character goes way beyond that into research on an alien known as Captain Marvell (aka Mar-Vell) and she soon gains superpowers, but I would have to believe her involvement in The Avengers 2 would strictly be limited to her time with the CIA.
As for Blunt and Wilson, you’ll remember Blunt was originally cast as Black Widow before she had to drop out due to a contractual obligation to Fox that saw her starring in Gulliver’s Travels alongside Jack Black instead. The role, as we all know, eventually went to Scarlett Johnasson.
Ruth Wilson will next be seen as the female lead Rebecca Reid, in The Lone Ranger, but before that she has one of the better roles in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina playing Princess Betsy.
If you ask me, either actress would be a great addition. Personally, I believe Blunt to be one of the best actresses working today and Wilson is definitely a highly sought up and comer. Of course, this is just one big rumor so for now Marvel fans, don’t get too excited, but there was nothing else to report at the time so why the hell not report this?
The Avengers 2 is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2015
