Director Tony Scott Committed Suicide at the Age of 68

This news hit me like a ton of bricks as Tony Scott is a director I have grown up with my entire life and tonight The Daily Breeze reports Scott, director of films such as Top Gun, True Romance and Days of Thunder, committed suicide by jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge linking San Pedro and Terminal Island.

I am at an absolute loss for words.

As reported by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge’s apex and leapt off “without hesitation” around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 19. Lt. Jennifer Osborn of the U.S. Coast Guard reports a suicide note was found in Scott’s black Toyota Prius parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

Scott is the brother to director Ridley Scott (Prometheus) and the two were close, working as producing partners with Scott Free Entertainment and recently wrapped the upcoming new television series “Coma”, a medical series, for A&E.

Scott leaves behind his wife Donna and sons Max and Frank. He was 68.
