Cosmopolis
August 17

I missed it at Cannes and have yet to hear a peep from the Seattle publicists, but I am on the lookout for David Cronenber’s Cosmopolis, and adaptation of the novel by Don DeLillo described as a contemporary thriller that turns into a wild, hypnotic odyssey through our new millennium’s obsessions with power, money, control, information, technology, violence, sex, mortality, revolution, destruction and ultimately, redemption.
The response to the film hasn’t exactly been overwhelming, but I get the feeling this is a film that’s going to polarize both critics and audiences.
Featured below is a new clip from the film titled “The Smell of Sex”, maybe give it a look and see what you think. And if you want to check out a trailer you can watch one right here.

Compliance
August 17 (Limited)

I know little about Compliance other than it premiered at Sundance and received quite the controversial reception with many praising it. The film is based on a true story in which someone prank calls a fast food restaurant claiming to be a police officer and urges the employees to do some unspeakable things to help solve a case… they comply. Check out the trailer below if you need to know any more.

The Bourne Legacy
August 10

As far as I’m concerned the most anticipated film of the month is easily The Bourne Legacy, which at the beginning of the year I was a little hesitant to support and whether it’s due to the lack of standout blockbusters this summer or just a growing need to get back into those close-quarters hand-to-hand fight scenes, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Jeremy Renner can do in the lead role.
A few other films coming out in August
- Total Recall
- Celeste and Jesse Forever
- Hope Springs
- The Campaign
- Red Hook Summer
- The Awakening
- The Day
- The Expendables 2
- ParaNorman
- Sparkle
- Why Stop Now
- Hit and Run
- Premium Rush
- Robot & Frank
- Little White Lies
- Lawless
