First Look at Ben Whishaw as the New Q in the New Bond, ‘Skyfall’

Throughout the years the James Bond gadget guru Q has been played by Peter Burton, Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese and his introduction into the latest iteration of the franchise, featuring Daniel Craig as 007 will have its first appearance in Skyfall and will be played by Ben Whishaw and today we get our first look at the character in all his geeky glory.

The interesting thing about this is Whishaw is the youngest actor to ever take over the reigns as Q and should audiences warm to him and should he so choose, there is no telling how long he could play the character.

Llewelyn was 85 when he last played Q in 1999’s The World is Not Enough starring Pierce Brosnan. By the time Skyfall hits theaters on November 9, Whishaw will only be 32. Just imagine if we had the same Q for the next 53 years… do you see the Bond franchise continuing that long? After all, Robert Pattinson said he’d be up to taking over the role… in 2032.

“Yeah, definitely, but more like 20 years [from now],” he said. “There’d be nothing worse than, like, ‘Let’s get a fresh-faced Bond!’ That would be the worst idea in the world. After Daniel Craig, you have to have some baggage. It would be ridiculous to reinvent it as some young posh kid. Or, if it was, I’d have to be tortured in the first few scenes. I’d have to do the first film with one arm or something.” At least he knows he’s not ready.
