‘Oldboy’ Remake Lands Villain and Female Lead and Ridley’s ‘Counselor’ Courts Pitt, Bardem and Jolie

Spike Lee‘s remake of Oldboy has now cast its villain with Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team) stepping in to torment Josh Brolin as a man who is kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years for unknown reasons. When inexplicably released, he sets out to find out who held him hostage and why.

Previous rumors are also confirmed as Martha Marcy May Marlene star Elizabeth Olsen will play the lead female role as a caseworker who helps Brolin’s character investigate the past. [Variety]

Ridley Scott‘s follow-up to his return to sci-fi with this summer’s Prometheus is already set as he’ll direct Cormac McCarthy’s script for The Counselor, which previously cast Michael Fassbender as a present-day Southwest lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe into the drug business without getting sucked down only to eventually find himself attempting to survive and get out of a desperate situation.

Today word arrives his hopes of landing Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem are close to done and that Angelina Jolie is circling the feature to play the female lead. Production begins in late June and Fox is said to be interested in acquiring it for distribution. [Deadline]
