‘Dark Knight Rises’ Standees, ‘Dragon Tattoo’ is a Loss and New ‘Avengers’ Pictures

I’m not sure if these are standees that will be seen in theaters or can be purchased for your home or what, but ComingSoon is featuring some standees featuring Batman (Christian Bale), Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy) from The Dark Knight Rises and, if anything, they give you detailed looks at each character, especially Bane (as you can see to the right) and Batman. MGM Holdings CEO Gary Barber says the $231 million earned by David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was “below our expectations and we booked a modest loss… [We] were hoping we’d do 10% more than we did.” The film’s reported budget was in the $90 million range, which does give credence to the idea a film needs to do somewhere from 2.5-3 times its reported budget to reach that break-even point.

Of course, it is always important to consider the potential for a franchise as most sequels tend to outperform their predecessor so I would still expect the studio, along with Sony, will move forward with The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, though Barber does add that will happen “assuming we can achieve better economics.” Such a statement has people wondering if that’s the case will David Fincher return? Several new pictures from The Avengers have arrived online over at MovieZine and to go along with that I’ve also included a recently released IMAX trailer for the film directly below. [source]

Warner Bros has optioned film rights to the “Fourth Realm Trilogy,” a bestselling series by dystopian novelist John Twelve Hawks with work expected to begin on The Traveler, the first book in the series, immediately. The novels are set in the near future, and reinterpret history as a battle between the forces of control. There is the Tabula, which manages society through constant observation, and the Travelers, a nearly extinct group of people who can project their spirit into other dimensions. The series continued with the novels The Dark River and The Golden City. [source]

Finally, here’s a piece of promotional art featuring The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) in The Amazing Spider-Man, which hits theaters on July 3, 2012. [source]
