First Official Images from ‘Total Recall’ and ‘Underworld 4’ Arrive

Yes, both of these images surfaced last week, scanned from the pages of “Entertainment Weekly”, but I held off on both assuming some crisp versions would soon arrive and sure enough Columbia Pictures has released the first two official images from their Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell and directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) as well as the first image of Kate Beckinsale as she returns to the Underworld franchise as the werewolf-hunting vampire Selene in Underworld Awakening.

First for the above look at Colin Farrell in Total Recall, a film described as a new, contemporized reimagining of the science fiction saga based on the short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick, which served as the source for the 1990 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, this new film, written by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt, is said to have ditched the Martian storyline from the original pic and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn’t know for which side.

Along with Farrell the film co-stars Bryan Cranston, Kate Beckinsale, Bokeem Woodbine, Ethan Hawke, Bill Nighy, Jessica Biel and John Cho and is set to hit theaters on August 3, 2012. So yeah, it’s a ways off.

Next we have our first look at Kate Beckinsale in Underworld Awakening, which appears to be the title the studio has officially decided on after it has been referred to in the past as Underworld 4, Underworld 3D and Underworld: New Dawn.

Beckinsale returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species. Beckinsale is joined by Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance for the film, which is set to hit theaters on January 20, 2012.
