The Cannes Film Festival has slowly been adding new video footage from several of the films showing in the selection this year to their press section and the latest addition is a new clip from Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, which I will be seeing the morning of Wednesday, May 18.
The clip features Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsborugh, who play sisters in the feature and it definitely draws a line in the sand as to where the characters stand when it comes to the prospect of the world ending.
Melancholia is described as a psychological disaster movie and takes place at the reception party following Justine’s (Dunst) marriage to Michael (Alexander Skarsgard) in the home of Justine’s sister (Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law (Kiefer Sutherland). Meanwhile, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth.
