I received a few new images from Lars von Trier’s Cannes entry Melancholia today along with the international poster.
After Von Trier excited the folks on the Croisette a couple of years ago with Antichrist you can be sure this will be a hot film at Cannes where it will screen for the first time for press on May 18, where I will be on hand to see it and bring you word on what you have to look forward to when Magnolia releases it later this year.
The film is described as a psychological disaster movie and stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgard, Udo Kier and Jesper Christensen. The story centers on the night of the wedding between Justine (Dunst) and Michael (Skarsgard). The newlyweds are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of Justine’s sister (Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law (Kiefer Sutherland), all the while, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth.
