New Pics from Almodovar’s ‘Skin I Live In,’ Von Trier’s ‘Melancholia’ and Malick’s ‘Tree of Life’

A batch of new images from a trio of films showing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival just arrived and we’ll start with Lars von Trier’s Melancholia. The image above is only a fraction of one of two new images from Von Trier’s end of the world picture featuring Kirsten Dunst. The image you see above was actually seen in the trailer and can be seen in full view in our gallery along with a behind-the-scenes shot featuring Von Trier directing Dunst and co-stars Kiefer Sutherland and Alexander Skarsgaard. Click here for the full gallery.

In Melancholia Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg play sisters whose lives are drifting apart as the universe spectacularly unravels in what Von Trier describes as a beautiful movie about the end of the world.

Above is just one of ten new images from Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, which will be premiering at Cannes ahead of its May 27 release here in the States. The last batch of images I offered from this film featured images primarily from the trailer whereas this latest batch branches out a bit more. You can check them all out right here.

The Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain, Fiona Shaw and Pell James and tells the story of a Midwestern family in the 1950s, following the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn) finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith.

And finally we have a not safe for work gallery from Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In that holds one image that may not necessarily be the best to open from your cubicle. In fact, it’s the image I have chosen to feature above, although here I’ve blurred out the naked woman in background. You can check out the un-blurred version as well as four other images from the film right here.

The Skin I Live In is a loose adaptation of Thierry Jonquet’s “Tarantula” centering on a plastic surgeon (Banderas) who exacts terrible revenge on the man who raped his daughter. It too will be featured in competition at Cannes this year.
