Second ‘Arthur’ Poster Revealed to Appease Gerwig Supporters

I was one of those Arthur, just where exactly was Greta Gerwig? She was filling the Liza Minelli role from the 1981 Oscar-winning original, but she could be seen in maybe 2 seconds of the film’s first trailer.

Then the first poster arrived and zip, she couldn’t be found among the film’s lead trio, which are undeniably bigger names with Brand, Jennifer Garner and Helen Mirren. But for anyone that saw Greenberg or more recently No Strings Attached, they know Gerwig is the best thing about both of those movies. Her absence from the new film’s marketing did two things for people paying attention: 1) Was hardly a surprise given this is a comedy geared toward the masses rather than the few people that saw Greenberg or noticed Gerwig’s standout performance in No Strings and 2) tells us this film is likely to be a bunch of fall down gags rather than much comedy of a very respectable sort.

However, everything said, Warner Bros. has released a new poster, no doubt merely to appease the online Gerwig supporters, though it could also be taken as a bit of a middle finger as Gerwig’s face is still pretty much hidden as they can’t even allow her to make eye contact with the audience. I remain unsurprised and do not expect this new poster to be featured in many, if any cinemas and will likely just be passed around the online blogosphere. So be it. You can check out the new poster directly below.

Arthur hits theaters on April 8. You can click here to watch the trailer.
