BFCA Names ‘The Social Network’ Best Picture, but ‘Inception’ is Big Winner

Black Swan may hold the record for the Critics’ Choice Awards record for most nominations with 12 and The Social Network may have been the unsurprising winner of the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Best Picture honors, but Inception was the night’s biggest winner with six awards including Best Action Movie, Cinematography, Art Direction, Editing, Visual Effects and Sound. By comparison Black Swan only scored one win, that being for the recently pregnant Natalie Portman.

All-in-all there weren’t a whole lot in the way of surprises as The Social Network won Best Picture honors along with Best Director (David Fincher), Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). If anything, I’d say the only surprise when it comes to the night is The Social Network not winning for Best Editing.

Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) won for Best Actor and Christian Bale (The Fighter) won for Best Supporting Actor, two categories I fully expect the Academy to mimic and Melissa Leo gets a tiny bump with a Best Supporting Actress win for her role in The Fighter. The Fighter, for that matter, actually did quite well when it comes to the acting kudos with Bale and Leo both winning as well as the film winning the Association’s Best Ensemble award.

Finally, kudos to Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) for winning Best Young Actor/Actress honors.

I’ve added the complete list of winners directly below and remember, this Sunday I’ll be live-blogging the Golden Globe Awards and there is still time to get your predictions in on the poll I posted earlier today. Just click here and make sure your opinion is known.
