It was announced last year that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment would release the complete Star Wars saga on Blu-ray in Fall 2011. The Star Wars Blu-ray box set was confirmed to include all six live-action Star Wars films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with extensive special features – including documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives.
That news came from a press release back in August. Today, Engadget offers up the invite you see to the right saying a “most impressive announcement” would be made this coming Thursday at Panasonic’s CES booth in Las Vegas. By all accounts this appears to be a Blu-ray related announcement, which makes me doubt it has anything to do with the current plans to convert the Star Wars films to 3D. So what could this “most impressive announcement” be?
One guess would be for Lucas to pull a 180 and include the original trilogy along with his “special” editions, but that just seems like a pipe dream. The only other possibility I can think of is a confirmed release date. You have any better guesses?
