‘Fighter’ and ‘King’s Speech’ Lead 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

This morning at 6 AM, Rosario Dawson and Angie Harmon announced the nominees for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in five film and eight television categories. In the film category The Fighter and The King’s Speech led the way, both earning four nominations with Black Swan and The Kids are All Right both earning three.

Looking over the list of nominees I can’t say I’m surprised by too many of the choices outside of the love Black Swan is receiving from yet another Mila Kunis nomination for Supporting Actress and the film itself getting an ensemble nomination, a nomination I thought The Town would surely be getting. This moves Kunis much higher into the Supporting Actress conversation and will have me second guessing The Town as a Best Picture nominee, though Jeremy Renner’s performance is assuredly a lock for a Supporting Actor nom.

Elsewhere, Hilary Swank’s nomination for Conviction isn’t exactly a surprise, but I can’t help but wonder where is Lesley Manville? Are people voting for her in both Supporting and Lead? Are people not voting for her at all? I’m also continually confused as to how Annette Bening is being showered with attention for her role in The Kids are All Right while Julianne Moore is not. I just don’t get it. Though Kids fans should be happy as Mark Ruffalo earned another nomination for his part in the film and looks to be a likely candidate for an Oscar Supporting Actor nom as well.

I can also assume The Social Network fans will be upset to see Andrew Garfield’s performance miss the list of noms, but I am happy to see John Hawkes finally getting a little more attention for his performance in Winter’s Bone. Dale Dickey wasn’t able to breakthrough this time, but at least Hawkes did.

Other than that, I leave the rest of the commentary to you. Snubs? Surprises? Excitement? Let your thoughts be known in the comments below.

The 2011 SAG Awards will be handed out on Sunday, January 30, 2011 and will be simulcast live coast to-coast on TNT and TBS starting at 8 PM EST / 5 PM PST from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles.
