Well, the top of the box-office is ordered as we suspected, but the returns are a bit woeful. Let’s have a look at how things shook out this weekend and mourn a franchise that will most likely come to an end.

2. The Tourist
It’s only been around for three days and I feel as if we’ve talked it into the ground after debating its $100 million budget, whether or not Jolie and Depp could put the asses in the seats and whether or not it’s any good at all. Personally I thought it was dreadful and as for that $17 million result, Laremy was damn near spot on.
On the reader side of things, Ian had the closest call at $16.5 million. Good on yah.

3. Tangled
Tangled lost 38 theaters and fell only 32% and is now at $115 million domestically. It’s foreign numbers so far bring it to $160 million worldwide. I know we’ve talked extensively about the $260 million budget, but at this point I think we all know that’s a number reflecting years of development. I’m ready to call this one a hit and after its theatrical run and the amount of money it is likely to earn Disney from toys to DVD and Blu-ray sales I’d say we still may see another Disney princess in the near future… Just a guess.

Potter fell 50% and is now over $257 million domestically and $727 million worldwide. It has $59.8 million left if it wants to take over Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and become the all-time highest grossing domestic Harry Potter release… Will it make it? It sits at #6 right now, just over $4 million behind Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

5. Unstoppable
Laremy was $0.01 million off on this prediction, I’d say that’s pretty damned good as Unstoppable is now just shy of $75 million with foreign dollars raising its overall cume to $125 million. The budget on this one is $100 million, but I think after all is said and done this one will be considered a hit. I have to assume it will do tremendously on DVD and Blu-ray, it’s tailor-made for good times on the home entertainment system.

6. Black Swan
What do you say to a $37,022 per theater average? I say good on yah and way to make sure you remain high up in the Oscar talk. I was worried if Darren Aronofsky’s film didn’t do well at the box-office it could fade from Oscar chatter considering it isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill kudos flick. However, with numbers like this and the fact it will be expanding even further very soon I think we can expect it to remain part of the year-end conversation throughout.

7. Burlesque
It lost 161 theaters and only dipped 47.8%. Not too bad, but I don’t think Screen Gems is ready to greenlight Burlesque 2.
Result: $3.2 million

With only a $30 million budget this one won’t be looked at as a complete travesty, but it is certainly a disappointment after all the pre-release chatter.

9. Due Date
It only fell 38% despite losing 460 theaters and along with Unstoppable, Burlesque and Love and Other Drugs it’s another prediction Laremy was less than $0.4 million off on and there’s one more where that came from.
Result: $2.54 million

10. Megamind
Only $0.01 million off on this one as well. Damn, Laremy was strutting his stuff this weekend. If he’d only picked Black Swan instead of 127 Hours to make the top ten he’d really be shouting from the rooftops.

Speaking of 127 Hours, it made $985,000 from 416 theaters, which was actually 17 less than last weekend if you can believe that. Another limited release, The King’s Speech had another huge weekend, making $31,158 per theater with a total of $592,000 from 19 theaters.
However, the weekend’s big per theater winner was the excellent newcomer, The Fighter which made $320,000 from four theaters for an $80,000 per theater average. How you like dem apples?
Finally, Julie Taymor’s The Tempest was released in five theaters and scored a paltry $45,000. Wah wah.
Hopefully next weekend gives us more to talk about at the top with the upcoming release of TRON: Legacy and How Do You Know. I wonder, though, how many of you will inflict punishment on yourselves and go see or take someone to see Yogi Bear? Anticipated theater counts on Yogi have it at 3,400+ theaters, that’s more than TRON. Will it be the big winner?
