The Province (via Coming Soon) spoke with film composer Howard Shore who announced he’ll be returning to score The Hobbit and its sequel for Peter Jackson.
It looks like finally it’s going to be happening. I’ll be working on it for the next three years — it’s going to consume a lot of my time and work now.
Shore scored all three films in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, won an Oscar for Original Score for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as well as won an Oscar for Best Original Song along with Fran Walsh and Annie Lennox (pictured) for “Into the West” from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
His most recent score was for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and he’ll once again reunite with David Cronenberg to score A Dangerous Method. Also on his upcoming slate is Martin Scorese’s Hugo Cabret.
Personally I wasn’t a huge fan of Shore’s work on Lord of the Rings though it was obviously quite good. I enjoyed his score on Scorese’s Gangs of New York and Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises much more. The violin work by Nicola Benedetti on the Eastern Promises score is excellent.
