Indy in 3D?

At what point does reporting on unsubstantiated rumors make you an unreliable source for news and opinion? This is the question I battle with on a daily basis as stories crop up that would get me several hits and page views making advertisers happy, but at the same time overload the site with a flurry of non-stories, pushing the more interesting aspects of film discussion off the front page and into the dark.

Today’s example comes courtesy of Blue Sky Disney and a report LucasFilm will soon announce they are prepping the Indiana Jones franchise for 3D conversion. There is no timetable mentioned as LucasFilm is currently focusing all attention on converting the six Star Wars films into 3D, starting with The Phantom Menace in 2012.

Obviously this 3D craze has nothing to do with movies and has everything to do with money. 3D films, converted or otherwise, hold no additional cinematic value, only a monetary one for the studio and production company releasing them and, of course, the consumer who will be shelling over upwards of $20-25 in the future when these films finally hit theaters.

Is this really what you want to spend your money on?
