Box-Office Oracle: Oct. 15 – Oct. 17, 2010

Time go get back on track, and it looks like we’ve got a lay-up at the top. Jackass 3-D won’t have theater count supremacy, but it will have the 18 percent cushion those little plastic glasses provide. Let’s break it down!
#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks In A Row
2. Red
This one had to have cost much more than Jackass 3-D, I’d guess somewhere north of $60m. They screened it early, and it is a fun film, but I don’t think the world is clamoring for cartoon violence and Helen Mirren with a machine gun.
Prediction: $16.92 million
I think it’s a bit overrated, but I’m glad something is stirring conversation as we pivot toward Oscar season. On the financial side I’m officially concerned about that $50m production budget, but they may have the residual profit angles already lined up. This is a movie that should do very well on television. After all, FX already snatched it up.
Prediction: $11.28 million
I’m surprised the budget was only $35m here. I liked the movie, but if they had it to do over again I’d have liked to see them concentrate on the excellence of the horse, and not the underdog nature of the humans involved.
Prediction: $6.98 million
I love when the Monday trailers breathlessly scream “The #1 comedy in America!!” I wonder if anyone falls for that little marketing trick.
Prediction: $6.93 million
If I offered you an exceptional Superman film that included a song by Owl City, would you take that deal? I don’t think Brad would.
Prediction: $4 million
Is anyone else out there thinking that if Ben Affleck had just directed Pearl Harbor it might have all worked out?
Prediction: $3.96 million
I didn’t see it, but that six percent over on RT can’t mean great things.
Prediction: $3.5 million
The budget was $8m. The film has cleared $50m. Those numbers indicate Emma Stone is headed for stardom if she’s interested in that kind of thing.
Prediction: $2.49 million
People really went to town knocking this film. I liked it, but I’m the first to admit I get suckered in by good camera work paired with music I like.
Prediction: $1.73 million

How say you? Do you dare call Red at the top? Can Jackass 3-D hit $30m? Brad will be back to wrap you all up on Sunday, and of course his Friday midstream commentary is worth the price of admission. Keep it sassy, commenters!
