‘The Tempest’ Poster is Burning at the Edges

If Miramax is setting out to ensure people don’t mistake Julie Taymor’s The Tempest as just another hoity-toity Shakespeare adaptation I’d say the poster that just debuted on Yahoo takes care of that.

Last week I featured the first two images from the film and now the poster takes it up yet another notch. One thing this piece of artwork certainly does is have me curious to see what the trailer has to offer and if it will follow suit.

The film is a bit of a gender-bender of sorts as Helen Mirren takes over the lead role known as Prospero in the Shakespeare story, but renamed Prospera in Taymor’s adaptation. Prospera reigns over the magical island and centers on her and her daughter Miranda (Felicity Jones) and a shipwrecked crew full of Prospera’s enemies. Also starring in the film are Djimon Hounsou, Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Ben Whishaw, David Strathairn, Alan Cumming, Chris Cooper, Reeve Carney and Tom Conti.

The Tempest is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September before hitting theaters on December 10.
