First Look at Daniel Craig in ‘Cowboys and Aliens’

Only minutes ago Universal and director Jon Favreau debuted eight minutes of footage from the upcoming film Cowboys and Aliens with stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell in attendance to introduce the film. The response on Twitter was rousing.

Vic Holtreman wrote, “Only one month into shooting and Favreau just showed us 8+ minutes of the movie. Polished and awesome. Intense, mysterious, cool.” Erik Davis from Cinematical.com added, “Cowboys and Aliens footage had a great, raw, gritty Western feel.”

The film is based on Platinum Studios’ graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. The alien commander plans to tame the Old West and enslave everyone, but the cowboys and Native Americans turn their six-guns against the alien invaders.

The film is set for a July 29, 2011 release date and along with Craig, Ford, Wilde and Rockwell the film co-stars Noah Ringer (The Last Airbender), Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers) and Abigail Spencer (“Mad Men”). You can get a larger look at the image above right here.
