Release Dates: ‘Footloose,’ ‘Fright Night’ and Several from Sony Pictures Classics

Today Paramount officially announced the cast of their upcoming Footloose remake with Craig Brewer directing and newcomer Kenny Wormald (pictured) set to star as the lead character Ren opposite Julianne Hough. Dennis Quaid will play Reverend Moore and Miles Teller stars as Willard. On top of the cast announcement, Box-Office Mojo reveals the remake will hit theaters on April 1, 2011, pitting it against Russell Brand’s Easter Bunny comedy at Universal, Hop.

Next up, the casting for DreamWorks’ Fright Night continues to ramp up as Imogen Poots has recently joined the cast that includes Anton Yelchin, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Colin Farrell and Toni Collette. The remake of the 1985 original revolving around a teen who finds out his neighbor is a vampire is set to hit theaters on October 7, 2011. Currently it’s all alone on that date, but I am sure a couple of low rent horrors will begin circling the premises.

Next, The Playlist has scored the updated release schedule for several titles from the Sony Pictures Classics’ 2010 slate beginning with Stephen Frears’ Tamara Drewe set for October 8, the same weekend as the Weinstein’s Nowhere Boy, Disney’s Secretariat and the Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel romantic, baby comedy Life as We Know It.

Sylvain Chomet’s animated The Illusionist will hit limited theaters on Christmas Day and four days later Mike Leigh’s fantastic Another Year will arrive on December 29.

Elsewhere, Music Box Films moved the upcoming release of The Girl Who Played With Fire from July 2 to July 9 and Gus Van Sant’s Restless starring Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) is expected to hit theaters on January 28, 2011, the same weekend as Mikael Hafstrom’s supernatural thriller The Rite starring Anthony Hopkins and Ciaran Hinds.
