Netflix has set the release date for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the second entry in the Josh Hutcherson-led horror film series. These movies are adaptations of Scott Cawthon’s namesake games. Initially, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 had its world premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater on December 2, 2025, before debuting in US theaters on December 5.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 becomes available for streaming on Netflix on August 3, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). Emma Tammi, who also helmed the first movie, directed the sequel from a script by Cawthon.
The cast of the second movie includes Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Shelly, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Freddy Carter as Michael Afton, Theodus Crane as Jeremiah, Wayne Knight as Mr. Berg, Mckenna Grace as Lisa, Skeet Ulrich as Henry Emily, Teo Briones as Alex, and Matthew Lillard as William Afton.
Predominantly set in 2002, about two years after the events of the first movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 follows Mike and Vanessa as they seek a fresh start after the horrors they experienced in 2000. However, when Mike’s sister Abby secretly visits the franchise location, she accidentally sets off a new set of horrific events.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was a box-office success, earning over $238 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). However, the movie performed abysmally with professional critics and currently has a 17% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sabina Graves of io9.com is one of the few critics who gave the movie a positive review. “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is filled with great gateway non-stop scares and continues to solidify itself as this generation’s horror saga to watch—that is, as long as it doesn’t commit only to fan service for the future of the franchise,” Graves shared.
Notably, a third Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is currently in development.
