Title and Character Art for Fox’s Animated Feature ‘Rio’

20th Century Fox has revealed an official piece of title art and the first look at the lead animated character from Rio set to hit theaters on April 8, 2011 from the makers of the Ice Age films.

The blue macaw you see above is aptly named Blu and he’s voiced by Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland) and is the lead character in Rio, an upcoming animated feature set in Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil. Blu thinks he is the last of his kind, but when he discovers there’s another he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it’s far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway). Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life’s many wonders. “Rio” brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance.

The trailer first hit back in mid-May, but I have included an updated HD version directly below. You can get a slightly larger look at the picture above in the RopeofSilicon gallery for Rio right here.
