Dunst, Stewart, Riley and Hedlund are ‘On the Road’

I haven’t talked of Walter Salles’s upcoming adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road since the announcement Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) would star, but since then Kristen Dunst, Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley have joined the project. Jose Rivera, who wrote the script for Salles’s The Motorcycle Diaries, wrote the adaptation using what is described as an unedited scroll version.

Hedlund is set to play Dean Moriarty while Riley will play Kerouac’s alter ego, Salvatore Paradise, two young men who journey across the North American landscape in pursuit of self-knowledge and experience. Kristen Stewart will play Paradise’s on-and-off wife, Marylou. Dunst is the latest to join the project, though her role in the film has not yet been disclosed.

On the Road is expected to be shot in New Orleans and Montreal with plans to begin in August for French production house MK2. Francis Ford Coppola, Rebecca Yeldham, Nathanael Karmitz and Charles Gillibert will produce.
