Cotillard and Farrell Make for Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’

Back in July of 2009 it was confirmed David Cronenberg was going to be making Cosmopolis, an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel instead of the anticipated The Matarese Circle, which at the time had Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington attached, but that film seems to be quickly dying if it’s not extinct.

Today, it has been reported by Variety Cronenberg is moving forward on Cosmopolis from his own script and Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard are now attached to star. Filming is already set to take place from March to May in Toronto and New York.

Cosmopolis follows a multimillionaire on a 24-hour odyssey across Manhattan. Farrell will play the asset manager who loses all his wealth over the course of one day. Cotillard will play his wife.

The film will follow Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Mind, which begins shooting this month in Germany with Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel. A Dangerous Mind is based on the play by Christopher Hampton, the pic is about the conflict between Freud (Mortensen) and his pupil Jung (Freud). Knightley will play Sabina, a disturbed young woman brought to see Jung by her father after which Jung and Sabina have an affair.
