Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void has received praise and scorn depending on what corner of the Internet you travel in. I have yet to see it, though I have heard plenty. The film runs 156 minutes, includes something like a 20-minute orgy scene and begins with the following 64-second long psychedelic credit sequence that quite frankly is too much for me to handle even on my laptop.
The film played at Sundance and I have heard as many as 40 people walked out during the opening credits and there are even rumors of people walking out later in the film to boos from the audience. It recently played again at the South by Southwest Film Festival but is yet to receive an official domestic release though IFC Films is currently eying a September release this year.
The film centers on a drug dealer named Oscar who lives with his stripper sister Linda in Tokyo. Mortally wounded in a police bust, having sworn never to abandon her, Oscar’s spirit wanders the city in Noe’s visionary psychedelic melodrama.
Check out the opening credits below and tell me if you are anxious or scared to see what happens next. The only film of Noe’s I have seen is Irreversible and that was a hard one to stomach, especially after the head-bashing by way of fire extinguisher scene. Man, probably the most gruesome scene I have ever watched and I have seen a lot of gruesome stuff.
