Preliminary 2011 Oscar Contenders: Part Four

Release Date: Release date not yet set
Distributor: Still looking for distribution
Directed By: Larysa Kondracki
Quick Thoughts: Rachel Weisz stars in Larysa Kondracki’s feature film directing and writing debut The Whistleblower, a drama based on the true story of Kathryn Bolkovac (Weisz), a United Nations police officer who risks her life to uncover severe corruption and sex trafficking by UN officials in Bosnia and bring them to trial. There is no way to be sure this film will hit theaters in 2010, but Weisz did comment back in mid-January saying the film had completed principal photography. Whether Kondracki’s Oscar-nominated editor, Julian Clarke (District 9), will be able to have the film ready for Cannes submission is unlikely, which means it may have to wait until September for a Venice or Toronto debut if we are to look at it as a serious Oscar contender for this year.
Animated Films
As it stands right now I see eleven films making the list for Best Animated Feature Film consideration, but only one of them stands out as one that would end up winning, and I don’t think it’s any secret which one that is.

If I missed any please let me know in the comments below. Remember, there needs to be 16 contenders for the Academy to offer up five nominees.

Documentaries
As of right now, the list of I have of potential feature documentary candidates is severely limited. If anyone has any additional suggestions please add them below:
