2010 Oscars Live Blog: Oscar Winners and Commentary

5:27:02 PM: Page 2 begins and the Oscars are underway!

5:27:17 PM: We have begun the road to Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker… I think… too many commercials to truly tell.

5:30:22 PM: It has begun and the nominees for Actor and Actress have stepped on stage.

5:30:37 PM: They start with Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock… a sign of how the night will turn out?

5:31:39 PM: The set actually looks pretty cool, all blue and white light with a bit of a metallic blue to it.

5:32:09 PM: And Neil Patrick Harris kicks thing off!

5:32:20 PM: Doogie has really done well for himself. Good to see and people love him.

5:33:52 PM: Alec and Steve, “The biggest pair since Dolly Parton.” Solid line NPH!

5:34:15 PM: Oh man, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin dropping from the rafters like… a pair of tuxedo wearing angels? Not really, but whatever. Still fun.

5:35:02 PM: Really loving the hosting choice, hopefully it will be as good as it is on paper.

5:37:22 PM: Martin: “Oh look, there’s that damn Helen Mirren.”

Baldwin: “That’s ‘Dame’ Helen Mirren.”

5:40:21 PM: Baldwin: “Oh look.. it’s the wood sprites from Avatar.”

Enter Martin with bug spray. Bye bye wood sprites.

5:41:41 PM: Martin: “Over here is the Inglourious Basterds.”

Baldwin: “And over here are the people that made the movie.”

5:42:09 PM: Okay, this is going on a little long.

5:44:00 PM: Penelope Cruz is the first presenter out to present the winner for Best Supporting Actor.

5:44:35 PM: Gotta be Waltz. I mean there is really no doubt here.

5:45:30 PM: Gotta say, if the clips are this long for all the nominees this is going to be a long show.

5:45:49 PM: The clip from The Last Station has got to be the first time many of these people have even seen a single second of that movie.

5:48:10 PM: And the winner is Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds

5:50:06 PM: Ryan Reynolds is the next presenter to introduce The Blind Side as a Best Picture nominee and boy is he making it sound like something more than it is.

5:51:31 PM: You threaten my son, you threaten me. = Oscar nominee

5:51:52 PM: Commercial time! If you have a Twitter account I’m also updating things live on my account over there. Follow me and stay in touch with RopeofSilicon all year round.

5:52:46 PM: Okay, I feel a little dirty about that last update. I hate when people sell to me, and especially something so silly about a Twitter account. I apologize…

5:53:20 PM: ..but seriously, follow me!

5:55:09 PM: Oh yeah, this reminds me, the new Iron Man 2 trailer is on during Jimmy Kimmel tonight after the Oscars.

5:55:41 PM: Cameron Diaz and Steve Carell out to present the award for Best Animated Film and boy is Cameron strutting it, whatever “it” is.

5:57:01 PM: This is great, new animated clips for each film talking about what it means to be nominated.

5:57:51 PM: But we already know Up wins this… right? Anyone promoting a Fantastic Mr. Fox upset?

5:58:13 PM: And the winner is Up

5:59:23 PM: Okay, sorry, quick pat on the back as I am quite pumped the Breaking News script, Twitter script and Latest Winners thing in the right hand column is working. It’s always a mystery whether these things will work or not every award show.

Thanks for being here with me!

6:00:33 PM: Next presenters are Amanda Seyfried and Miley Cyrus.

6:00:49 PM: Also, if you want winner counts you can check out the Oscar winner page on RopeofSilicon here.

6:01:10 PM: Miley and Amanda are presenting Best Original Song. This is a Crazy Heart win for sure for “The Weary Kind”

6:02:19 PM: Seriously folks, these clips are so long this show could go on FOREVER!

6:03:59 PM: And the winner is “The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart

6:05:24 PM: Chris Pine is now introducing District 9 as a Best Picture nominee.

6:06:39 PM: Another commercial break, but no commercial from me this time.

6:08:44 PM: By the way, myself and the readers are 3-for-3 so far. If you didn’t see the predictions yet, check ’em out here during the commercial.

6:10:05 PM: Oscar commercials certainly aren’t like Super Bowl commercials. Before the Oscars it was panty liners and now it’s Amtrak.

6:11:59 PM: Whoa, we’re back… It’s Robert Downey Jr. and Tina Fey, a couple of pros if you ask me.

6:13:27 PM: Okay, this is going by too fast, but some good stuff. Hopefully it will be on YouTube.

6:14:00 PM: They are presenting the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay… Will it be Basterds or Hurt Locker? My bet Locker, reader bet Basterds. We Battle!

6:15:17 PM: And the winner is The Hurt Locker

6:15:40 PM: Boom, my first big test is a winner…. 4-for-4, but the night is young.

6:16:20 PM: This has to be a sign (at least it is for me) that Hurt Locker wins Best Picture.

6:16:49 PM: Feeling bad for Mark Boal, his father died a month ago and didn’t get to see his son win an Oscar.

6:17:12 PM: What? Molly Ringwald! Oh, and Matthew Broderick…

6:17:42 PM: Oh, a John Hughes tribute… Certainly appropriate.

6:21:49 PM: Oh man, tons of John Hughes regulars on stage now. Alley Sheedy, Judd Nelson, John Crier, Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Macaulay Caulkin and Matthew Broderick are adding to the tribute.

6:23:37 PM: Samuel L. Jackson is the next, presenting Up as one of the ten Best Picture nominees.

6:24:11 PM: I am going to use this time for a page break and we’ll start up again on Page 3.
