This Weekend at the Movies: February 12, 2010

The Wolfman
This weekend is made up of a trio of films ranging from absolutely terrible to simply mediocre. Universal should be happy The Wolfman is at the top of that heap, but it’s not exactly a win considering “mediocre” is hardly the goal when making a feature film.

This film is rated R for bloody horror, violence and gore.
Valentine’s Day
The romantic comedy appears to be dead, so much so, it’s become cliche to even say the romantic comedy is dead. Sure, 500 Days of Summer came along and people loved it. I even liked Definitely, Maybe in 2008, but these films are the exception to the rule. Romantic comedies are no longer romantic and they are far from funny and Valentine’s Day is 2010’s second F effort along with Leap Year, both of which fall just below the misery that is When in Rome, which means any upcoming rom-coms, while fighting an uphill battle, have very little competition in the fight for best rom-com of 2010.

This film is rated PG-13 for some sexual material and brief partial nudity.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Boring. Check out the trailer below, it’s 30 seconds and when you boil this two hour movie down to 30 seconds it certainly is entertaining, but you stretch it out and you have a mess of effects and that’s hardly worth watching.

This film is rated PG for action violence and peril, some scary images and suggestive material, and mild language.
