On Wednesday I opened the polls giving RopeofSilicon readers the chance to predict tomorrow night’s 2010 Golden Globes and after upwards of 1,000 voters weighed in the results are here and it appears everything except for score stayed in line with my predictions, but most interesting is the race for Best Picture (Drama).
With 912 votes tallied for Best Picture (Drama), The Hurt Locker edged out Avatar by a mere 22 votes and even Inglourious Basterds held its own. What may be even more interesting is the Hollywood Foreign Press’s known bias for star vehicles, which would lead me to believe Up In the Air stands a significant chance at winning the Globe, but it was far behind Hurt Locker, coming up 130 votes shy.
The Best Actress (Drama) race was also very close and I am starting to think Carey Mulligan (An Education) will most likely fall to Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side). Along with George Clooney in the Best Actor (Drama) category, Bullock is the star of the bunch and getting her on stage all bright and chipper will most certainly make for a spectacle rather than awarding a shiny newcomer few have heard of. I wish this wasn’t how things were decided, but to say otherwise is to deny what looks rather inevitable at this point.
The rest of the races weren’t that tight, although the original score race may be the one place where the majority of voters as well as myself are proven wrong as Michael Giacchino’s score for Up seems to be the pundits’ pick to win and it came in third in the polling behind Avatar and my pick Where the Wild Things Are.
The poll winners are listed below and you can click here to see the complete rundown and vote tallies.
It’s looking like tomorrow night could be a lot of fun with a few surprises, so be sure to come back at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST as I will be live-blogging the event and live winners will be posted on the same page. Should be fun.
