Jones and Gyllenhaal Set To Decipher the ‘Source Code’

The blogosphere is alive with excitement as their new found love interest in Moon director, Duncan Jones, is confirmed for a new film with Jake Gyllenhaal and Summit Entertainment is aboard to distribute. The film is Source Code and Screen Daily says Breach writer/director Billy Ray is polishing up Ben Ripley’s original draft.

The film is described as a sci-fi thriller telling the story of a US soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a train bombing until he can find the perpetrator. Looking around it appears most bloggers have already read the script and are highly in favor of it.

However, the decision has surprised many that were looking forward to Jones’s Mute, a film that’s been described by Jones as “a love letter to Blade Runner” and follows a mute bartender looking for his abducted girlfriend in a future Berlin. The villains of the piece are a pair of buddies he describes as “the most diabolical bastards they possibly could be.”

Don’t worry, Jones hasn’t abandoned the project as the avid Twitter poster made sure to update his followers posting on Monday, “For those asking, Mute [is] still in the plans, just slightly delayed. It’s a hard sell.. whereas Source Code came with an offer hard to refuse.” If you want more from Mute you can check out a piece of concept art right here.

The reason for Mute‘s delay are financial as he recently told The Age which writes saying the film is “mired in financing difficulties, [but Jones] believes that if there weren’t difficulties getting it made, then he must have got something wrong.”

”Every problem,” he told the site, ”is proof that we’re planning a movie very different from the norm.”

For those interested in owning Moon, it was just revealed the film will hit DVD and Blu-ray on January 12, 2010. For more details on either release click here.
