Yahoo has debuted the trailer for Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes and serving as something of an unofficial remake of Abel Ferrara’s 1992 gritty thriller starring Harvey Keitel, a film of which Herzog has gone on record saying he has never seen.
Herzog’s tale centers on Cage who plays a rogue detective as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon.
