One film I haven’t yet mentioned out of the Toronto International Film Festival, although I did add it to the database along with images and a trailer, is Tom Ford’s directorial debut A Single Man. The film had been in the middle of pick-up chatter and has now found its way to the Weinstein Co. according to Variety.
A Single Man already earned star Colin Firth the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival. The film takes place in the 1960s and stars Firth as a gay British college professor attempting to cope with the death of his partner. As a result, both Firth and his co-star Julianne Moore are being looked at as Oscar bait.
The Weinsteins plan to release the film in a limited run to qualify it for the Academy Awards before going out wider in early 2010. The Weinsteins reportedly payed seven-figures for the pick-up.
