Jason Statham is ‘The Mechanic’

Variety is reporting Jason Statham will star in a remake of the 1972 feature The Mechanic, which starred Charles Bronson with Simon West set to direct.

Despite the title, the film isn’t about a guy doing oil changes. The original featured Bronson as a hit man working for “The Organization.” Eventually the detached killer of killers finds himself training the son of one of his victims as the film turns into a case of the pupil overtaking the master. Statham will obviously be taking on the Bronson role as the film is already scheduled to being filming this summer in Shreveport, La.

Simon West’s last feature film was the remake When a Stranger Calls, but he is better known for directing Con Air and the first Tomb Raider.

As for Jason Statham he was last seen in Crank: High Voltage and is currently filming The Expendables with Sylvester Stallone and Jet Li to name only a few.

For those interested, the 1972 original The Mechanic is available on Netflix Instant Play.
