‘Transformers 3’ Release Date Looks to 2012… Not 2011

I guess if you are going to announce a release date for your movie you should do your best to start by getting the year correct and go from there. On Monday Paramount announced a July 1, 2011 release date for Transformers 3 all while stating Michael Bay was not confirmed as director and no cast had been set. Basically, Paramount/DreamWorks were staking their ground and saying the July 4 weekend was theirs. But hold up, The Bay isn’t on board with this as he writes on his message board with the subject line “Wait a minute!”:

I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 – they asked me on the phone – I said yes to July 4 – but for 2012 – whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.

Michael

As much as I didn’t really like the first Transformers and am praying Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen doesn’t carry on the tradition I will say making one of these movies has to be a complete bitch. On top of that, if I were Bay I would want to take a break from robots entirely. Directing three movies in a row based in the same world has got to be murder as I am sure Peter Jackson will tell us.

So boys and girls, look for more robots in 2012. Based on a quick peek at the calendar I can only assume they will go directly for the July 4, 2012 slot which lands on a Wednesday and bow the flick early on July 3 and push for a nice long weekend of box-office domination.
