I am sure many of you remember the myriad of viral websites and corny crap Batman fans got involved in last year leading up to the release of The Dark Knight. From massive online generated scavenger hunts to faux websites propelling people into the world of Gotham City, marketing firm 42 Entertainment kept fans busy until the film finally hit theaters on its way to what is now a $1+ billion worldwide box-office tally.
Over the course of that time I did my best to keep on top of the many viral sites that sprouted up which resulted in a list of 35 sites, but I am sure I missed a few. Now, as pointed out by Film School Rejects, a video featurette detailing the success and scope of the viral campaing was revealed on Alternate Reality Branding and you may get a kick out of it by either laughing at the silly things people did or marveling at the idea the campaing included almost 10 million unique participants over 75 countries. Not too shabby eh? I don’t think this will be the last time we see something of this nature.
