Pair of ‘Heroes’ Writers Get the Boot

I haven’t watched “Heroes” since the season three premiere, but I do still have it in my Netflix Instant queue and may return to it before the DVD release late next year, but based on the previews I have seen and the audience reactions it doesn’t seem like it would really be of any benefit. However, NBC appears to be interested in saving the show that Entertainment Weekly felt it was in such trouble that they recently made it their cover story giving “Five Ways to Fix a Series In Crisis“.

Word has just arrived via Variety that co-exec producers/writers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb have been axed from the production. Variety says both had been with the show since its first season and were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/exec producer Tim Kring. It also says both were let go due to frustration with the creative direction of the show.

Since I haven’t been watching I can’t say exactly what the problems with the show are specifically, but here’s EW’s list of issues:

  1. Too many Heroes
  2. Absurd plot twists
  3. Overheightened reality
  4. Stale storytelling
  5. Heroes is too disposable

Even though I haven’t been watching I would say Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere are also a pair of problems as well as Greg Grunberg and his power requiring him to cock his head and stare at people, but what do I know?

Anyone out there still watching “Heroes”? Have you given up on it yet or are you still holding out hope?
