UPDATE: Morgan Freeman Suffers Broken Bones after Sunday Car Crash

UPDATE: It seems the accident occurred in northern Mississippi Sunday night and Freeman is no longer in any kind of serious condition. The 71-year-old actor broke his left upper arm and suffered several other fractures and neck and shoulder injuries in the wreck, said Bill Luckett, an attorney from Clarksdale, Mississippi. He will still need to undergo surgery and it may take three to four months for him to fully recover. CNN’s updating article is here.

Reports are swirling all around the Internet that Morgan Freeman was in a serious car accident with a female friend late Sunday night in Memphis, Tennessee. He was rushed to the Regional Medical Center about 90 miles north of the accident scene in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, said he arrived at the accident scene on Mississippi Highway 32 soon after it happened about 4 miles west of Charleston, not far from where Freeman owns a home with his wife.

McFerrin said it appeared that Freeman’s car was airborne went it left the highway and landed in a ditch. “They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” McFerrin said. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”

Local news starting WREG reports Freeman’s car went off Highway 32 near Leavy Road in Tallahatchie County and flipped several times.
