One of the toughest things about origin films in the world of the superhero is getting over the hump from ordinary to extraordinary. Audiences don’t want to watch their superheroes running from the bad guy for the entire film before the finally learn they too can kick ass. They want ass kickery from start to finish and Batman Begins on just about every level. I can honestly say Batman Begins is one of the few superhero movies where the journey to becoming a superhero is vastly more interesting than once their abilities are realized. The training sequences and the cocky millionaire exploits of Bruce Wayne are amazing cinema and it is why I can hardly wait to see what is in store with The Dark Knight.

I also wonder if you think V for Vendetta is a superhero movie? I almost added it and if I did I felt it would have come in at #1. The Crow is very similar to Vendetta in that it is an origin tale, but I think the far more supernatural elements to The Crow are what gives it a superhero classification I just couldn’t give to V.
