Judd Apatow Presents: Michael Mann Not Signed for ‘The Hobbit’

It’s the story that just won’t go away as we are reminded once again that Guillermo del Toro is not yet signed on to direct The Hobbit for MGM or its sequel.

The news comes as TheOneRing caught up with Del Toro and he told them, “At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do ‘The Hobbit.’ Negotiations advance but are still ongoing… All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-Earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to The Hobbit, but as an avid reader of mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect cosmology forged from very eclectic sources.”

In recent press release put out by MGM they mentioned The Hobbit as a film on their upcoming slate along with the likes of a RoboCop remake and a Death Wish remake. What is actually happening at the studio isn’t clear, and since New Line was folded into its parent company, Warner Bros., there is no telling if that move will also affect the status of the anticipated return to Middle Earth.
