Did any of you see how shitty the Weinstein Co. did last year at the box-office? I mean it is an absolute train wreck as their highest grossing film was the much talked about bomb Grindhouse with $25 million followed by Last Legion at $5.9 million and I’m Not There with only $3.1 million. None of their other nine films that were in theaters in 2007 even made over $1 million, and if you are thinking about The Mist and Halloween, those bad boys are from Dimension.
So, what does a company do when things look bad and a writers’ strike is killing their chances of picking up new scripts? Well, exactly what United Artists did after Lions for Lambs, make a deal with the WGA and get back to work.
NY Post is reporting that the Weinstein Co. is in talks with the Writers Guild of America about a deal that would allow the movie studio to hire striking Hollywood scribes for its film projects.
Apparently the Weinstein Co. held talks with the guild around Christmas and is weighing a proposal from union leaders that would allow writers to resume work, according to sources. Like the UA deal the Weinstein’s would ultimately accept whatever deal the guild and producers strike, but until then they can get back to work should an interim deal be put in place.
